Is It Safe to Reset a Boiler?

In most cases, yes—it is safe to reset your boiler, especially if it's a one-off fault like a power cut or a temporary pressure drop. However:

🚫 If the same fault keeps coming back, don’t keep pressing the reset—this could make things worse.

⚠️ Never attempt to open the boiler casing or touch internal components.

Step-by-Step: How to Reset Your Boiler

Before you begin, make sure to read your boiler’s manual, as reset procedures can vary slightly between models.

Step 1: Locate the Reset Button

Most boilers have a clearly marked reset button. It may be on the front control panel or hidden behind a drop-down flap. The manual will confirm the exact location.

Step 2: Press and Hold

Press and hold the reset button for about 5–10 seconds. Some models require just a quick press. The boiler may take a minute or two to restart.

Step 3: Wait and Watch

Once the boiler restarts, check that the fault code has cleared and the display shows normal operation. You should hear the boiler firing up again.

Step 4: Check Heating and Hot Water

Run a tap or turn on the heating to see if everything is working as expected.

How to Reset Boiler Pressure

Low pressure is a common cause of boiler lockouts. Here's how to fix it:

  1. Check the pressure gauge—if it’s below 1.0 bar, your boiler may not work.

  2. Locate the filling loop underneath your boiler (check your manual).

  3. Slowly open both valves to let water into the system.

  4. Watch the gauge rise to around 1.5 bar, then close the valves.

How to Reset a Worcester Boiler

To reset a Worcester Bosch boiler:
