Shropshire Gas benefiting the community

The Shropshire Gas Charity Initiative has been committed to raising and donating vitally needed funds for community organisations and associations within the North Shropshire district since the early 1990s. Its founder, Malcolm Carter, and committee members, Thomas Murray and Jim Walton, want to make a difference to the lives of children and young people through direct charitable donations. Shropshire Gas covers all the management expenses including administration and stationery. The price of every item purchased is negotiated. If it can be obtained free, it is. This means every pound works harder.

The first aim of the initiative is to improve facilities for local children and young people, including sport and education. The second aim is to continue our financial support of the NSPCC ‘Full Stop’ campaign, helping to stop cruelty and abuse to children. The final aim is to expand our initiatives to allow more children and young people to benefit from our donations.

Founder of the community initiative, Malcolm Carter, continues his hands-on approach by chairing the committee. Since the inaugural meeting, thousands of pounds have been donated to local good causes by its members. Meetings take place regularly throughout the year. Donations will be distributed amongst successful applicants within the North Shropshire area. We would like you to spread the word about the charitable fund to encourage more local community groups to make a request to our initiative. Groups can apply, indicating the scope of the project, as well as the potential benefits. All applications are considered no matter how large or small. The key decider is the benefit to children and young people in our local community.

The Shropshire Gas Charity Initiative is a very special, efficient and unique charitable venture. ‘Special’ because it helps improve the lives of children and young people. ‘Efficient’ because every pound raised and donated directly benefits the cause. These two points make it truly ‘unique’.

Those who have benefited from the Shropshire Gas Charity Initiative to date include:

Market Drayton Town Football Club
Market Drayton Tigers Football Club
Festival Centre Market Drayton
Hope House Children’s Hospice
Severn Hospice
The Donna Louise Trust
The Grove School, Market Drayton
And many more local groups.
